The 2023 Mongolia Society Annual Meetings and Panels
Sponsored by The Mongolia Society, the Center for Governance and Markets at the University of Pittsburgh and the Mongol American Cultural Association
The 2023 Annual Meeting of The Mongolia Society will be held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS) on the University of Pittsburgh campus, Saturday, October 21, 2023, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The CESS conference will be held October 19-23, 2023.
ATTENDANCE DONATION: We ask those who attend or present at the 2023 joint Mongolia Society-CESS conference to donate to help defray the cost of organizing it.
For those attending in-person, any Mongolia Society and/or CESS panels: Regular in-person attendance donation: $90 for Society members; $140 for Non-members.
For those attending via Zoom, any Mongolia Society and/or CESS panels: Regular Zoom attendance donation: $65 for Society members; $115 for Non-members.
To make the attendance fee donation, go the Mongolian Society Donation page and click on the “Donate” button. When prompted to add “Additional information,” please write “Annual Meeting.” Alternatively, you may also contact Susie Drost at monsoc@indiana.edu.
*DISCOUNTED MEMBERSHIP OFFER: The Society is offering a special discounted membership rate when new members join and pay the Annual Meeting Attendance Donation at the same time: It will cost only $115 for new U.S. members or $125 for Foreign members to both join the Society and attend the Annual Meeting and Panels. Xiaoyu Yang will discuss the making of this documentary on the life of two Kazakh eagle hunters and show the trailer of the film which is to be released in 2024. Golden Skies, offers a unique window into the heartwarming, amusing, and often touching relationships between the eagle hunters and their majestic golden eagles. It also delves into the modern life of the Kazakh people, exploring the intricate intersection between preserving their ancient cultural traditions while navigating the swift currents of a rapidly evolving society. It sheds light on how cultural tourism plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the rich heritage of eagle hunting, showcasing its importance in sustaining this remarkable tradition in Mongolia
